Hurray, No Problem!
However on September 8th, Tropical Storm Lee, the twelfth named storm and thirteenth system overall of the 2011 Atlantic hurricane season, was shoved our way by Hurricane Bert, and dropped around 10 more inches of water over a 30 hour period along the Susquhanna River through Broome and Tioga Countys.
YIKES!
The river rose above flood stage sometime the next afternoon
forcing evacuations all along the river.
On Friday afternoon, September 10th, the holding pond near 4 corners overflowed bringing water to within 2 blocks of our house. Through it all, because we live on a slight hill, we only got water in our basement, which was taken care of by the 2 sump pumps permanently installed there. For the whole time it was raining they went off every 30seconds, while half a block from us the electricity and gas were shut off for the safety of those homes causing their sump pumps to not work. Since we were so truly blessed, we volunteered our labor to help our neighbors who were not so fortunate. Disasters bring many blessings after the initial shock wares off. We make friends of those whom we most likely would not have payed any attention to, our children learn to happily serve and we draw closer to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.

It is now September 26th and the clean up continues. So many people have lost everything and will start over in new places, but spirits remain high for the most part. Our church, as well as others, have volunteered many hours of service to our fellow beings, which has been much appreciated by those in need as well as those who volunteered.
This sunset on our way home after such service
reminded us of a better future,
because the Lord truly loves us!!
because the Lord truly loves us!!
May He bless your life as well!
