Since I was a young child, I have always wanted to take piano lessons. When I was about 12yrs old, my parents brought home one of those come get it it's yours type piano. You know one which NO ONE wants to move!!! To me it was the most beautiful thing in the whole wide world! One of my friends was taking lessons and began teaching me what she was learning. At that time in my life I picked it up quickly. By the time I turned 16 the piano sat lonely for LONG periods of time from lack of knowledge to use it. My friend had long since moved away and no teacher was forthcoming.....
So when we moved to our farm, the piano remained behind, sigh..
In 1972 a flood hit our neck of the woods, and treasures were put on the curb to be thrown away. One day Dad brought home a small electric organ and cleaned and repaired it for a present to me! What a fabulous present! There was a traveling organ/piano teacher who came to the house once a week and with 2hrs of practicing a day, I was beginning to improve. But alas, life takes turns and twists and lessons were not to be continued yet again.
Years passed and another one of those 'take it home it's yours' deals presented itself, so home it came for you kids to take lessons. How exciting it was to watch and listen to each of you learn to play the piano! Gradually the piano became quiet more than not and began to be neglected. This past year, when a young sister in our ward posted that she was looking for beginner students. I decided to bite the bu
llet and finally get serious about taking lessons for myself!
I began the first week in September and am struggling but enjoying every minute of it! When Elaine came home for Christmas, she brought with her the Peanuts Christmas Album full of simple Christmas Songs to learn! Thank you Elaine! I have almost learn to play "Good King Wenceslas"!!! How wonderful it is to be able to play something and others recognize it, LOL!!! My mind and coordination are not what they used to be, but taking lessons will certainly be good for both, as well as help keep my joints limbered up. It is a good thing there are not many people around to suffer while I practice. :) Knowing that helps me relax and enjoy even the bloopers!
Maybe next year, I will be able to play some hymns. :)
