Renovations

Forgive me, it has been a long time since I have taken time to post anything. Where to begin.

The new frame, including the threshold, was put around the opening from the living room to the alcove. It is amazing how many things have to be 'fudged' to make new construction fit with the old, LOL!! We kept reminding ourselves of what Grampa Siglin used to say, "It is more important to have it look right than to be right." Thus we made it look right many times when the level or square said otherwise.

It seemed that putting the adhesive down would be an easy task, but this position is not easy on old bodies! I am grateful to a loving husband who has suffered along with me to complete this project. :)

Doesn't it look great!!!! Self stick tiles do not self stick for long so we put the adhesive down for more assurance. Had to put the glider in to see how it will look! After applying felt to the feet of all the furniture, they slide better on the hard surfaces! No more scratched floors, at least from them.

Dad laid the tiles and I grouted them in the entry hall! Took 4hrs to do the grout, but it was well worth the effort, because now it looks like real stone tiles in the entry way. They have a lifetime warranty for home use!

After the floors were done, the half wall was finally installed. YEAH! No more collecting things on the porch during the cold months when it was not in use!! Now to paint and install the electricity!!

Well... after rearranging the furniture in the living room, the couch looks too big across that corner. Elaine suggested the same thing as I was thinking, but didn't know if it would look right. "Put the glider in the living room and the couch in the alcove". Quick use of the tape measure and it fits!! Just! It will be a LOT more comfortable to relax in the alcove with the couch rather than the glider anyway. Most likely we will not be using the living room much now that we will have the TV, computer and treadmill in the alcove. Dad also suggested that I put the sewing machine under the 3 window unit in place of the toy bench. Guess that will have to go where the sewing machine is in the dining room. This so reminds me of a puzzle game where one square is missing and the others mixed up. I never was too good at moving them around to get a completed picture, LOL!

As of yesterday, the painting in the alcove is completed and the ceiling is 8/9th installed along with the wiring for a light/fan in the alcove and a light in the entry hall. I like how the two tone sponge painting on the wall turned out! Solid lighter paint underneath with a darker paint sponged over top. It blends the flat wall with the stucco quite nicely. The wood work however took 3 coats, my mistake the first two tries. Never knew how many different antique white cans of paint we had in our house!!! One yellowish, one pinkish and the other actually antique white! Since the wood was new, it needed at least 2 coats anyway and the third coat is a semi gloss so it will be easier to clean.
