Many of the old houses in our area have been repainted with Victorian Era color combinations.
BREATHTAKING!!!
I have always admired those homes and now they are even more fun to ogle over as I drive past!
I would like to do a modification of those color combinations to my house, since our house is far from a Victorian mansion with all of their fancy gingerbread decorations,
but I do not know what colors to choose or how to utilize them to the best effect.
Thus last night,
I made a silhouette picture of the house, to use for practicing different color combinations.
After spending HOURS on the internet looking at "Painted Lady" houses,
I have come to the conclusion that primary colors are not the way to go.
Either complimentary or tertiary colors with cream for accent make them so attractive!
Originally they used dark colors, but the new idea is to use more pastel shades so the colors do not fade.
Our house is already painted a pale yellow, which would be too costly to change at this point.
Thus, I must begin there.
Also, as you can see from the picture, there is little on this house, which can be used for accent.
Over each door and window is a simple decorative set of boards which could be to used to attract attention as well as shutters.
Also, circling the house half way up is a 6" board, another at the top of the wall, and we are putting one at the bottom,
which could be used for accent, probably a light cream.
Again, I must be careful not to overdo it~
The new front door lends itself to some fancy painting,
but
a little accent goes a LONG way!
Now to choose the accent colors!
Any ideas???????
I'm leaning towards a dark, slightly orangey, red and electric blue.
What do you think?? WILD and CRAZY huh!
It will be easy to tell people where we live, LOL!!!
How's this?
The color didn't translate accurately when scanned.
The main color is yellow not pink, but you can get the idea.
The wood paint around the windows is gold on the outer boards,
cream around the frames,
a thin of robin's egg blue around the window,
with scarlet red (slight orange) shutters.
The doorway is similar.
The cream and blue are the main difference from what it is now.
Feels good to have that off my mind!!
Now I can get back to painting the hall!
