Perhaps it is because we have friends and family who live in Japan that this earthquake seems so much more real. Maybe it is the seriousness of the situation there with so much destruction and loss of life, as well as the continued threat of disaster from the nuclear plants and lack of life sustaining supplies, which make this such an emotionally charged catastrophe. Even the General Authorities of the Church are having a difficult time remaining composed enough to inform people as to what the Church has done and what people can do to help relieve the suffering.
