I have been very lax at updating this blog, sigh. So here goes!
Thanksgiving was a fantastic whirlwind of excitement! First we got a 20 pound turkey for free from Weis for spending enough money in their store before November first! Put it in the oven Wednesday night before going to bed and enjoyed the smell all night. It was difficult to sleep, HE,HE,HE!! Took sweet potato souffle and crandberry/orange relish as well to Gramma Ford's for dinner at noon. She made mashed potatoes for the turkey gravey, green been casserole and ham as well!! It was a FEAST for the four us us! LOTS of left overs to leave and bring home have made for a great month afterwards.
Friday, dawned with Dad going to work until early afternoon, and me doing laundry and packing a suitcase and cooler to travel to the Palmyra Temple to celebrate our 45th anniversary. We were able to do some initiatory work as well as an endowment session! The weather was perfect very unseasonably warm for that time of year. Brought our coats into the hotel room so they would be warm in the morning when it was time to return to the temple.
Saturday morning surprised us with the sky clouded over with a HUGE flock of Canadian geese flying over on their south for the Winter! We stayed observing them until they were out of sight. Then off to the temple and another unseasonably warm day! Endowments and baptisms and off to Tommy and Cherie for a long overdue visit. What a delightful drive! Dad did homework while I drove Friday and Saturday. We were able to make great time and arrived just in time for dinner. Matt and Dan gave us their beds to sleep in and they slept in the living room. The short time there only wetted my appetite for more grandchildren time!!!! With Mke and Zach busy now that they are out of school, Cherie taking classes to complete her degree, Matt, Dan and Becca concentrating on getting good grades in school, and Tommy chained to the Navy, there seems to be less and less time for them to travel. And, Dad's time is completely taken up with all of his commitments. I must learn to be patient....
Sunday, we went to church and Tommy made dinner for us before we had to leave to start our busy week all over again.
Monday morning the temperature turned back to normal and Dad couldn't find his coat..... OOPS! We didn't need them Saturday or Sunday so never realize that we had left them in the hotel, YIKES!
Tuesday, I called the hotel and they put the coats in a safe place until we could come pick them up.
Thursday, December 15th was our Relief Society Sisters' Temple Trip, so off we went to Palmyra and on the way I took a detour to retrieve our coats! HURRAY!! Dad has another coat, but I only have one warm coat with lots of sweaters and a Spring/Fall coat, with which I was able to make do. Needless to say, my body was grateful to have a warm coat draped over it to shield it from the cold and wind!
Friday, we were invited to visit a member of the ward and her husband who had LOTS of questions to ask about the Gospel. We had a delightful time playing games, talking and taking a tour of his art and antique gallery. What an interesting way to save for retirement!
This week I finished the 3rd book in a series called the "Kingdom and the Crown" by Gerald N. Lund. His knowledge of the Hebrew and Jewish culture and traditions made it feel like I was actually an eye witness to the life and teachings of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! Fantastic discriptions of the Holy Land, the people, and the food were dispersed throughout the 3 books. He even was able to share deeper meanings of words making them much more understanding. Two words which I have been grateful to understand more fully are Hosanna and Hallelujah. Hosanna means: Save us now, we beseech thee, oh Lord! Hallelujah means: Hallel - Praise be, u - to, jah - Jehovah.
