Reflections on Job

When I was about 14yrs old, someone told me that I had the patience of Job. Not understanding what that meant, I have always been fascinated with this book of scripture. But alas, to fully appreciate the lessons, we must go through some of the trials which Job did. These have never been easy to endure, nor are they supposed to be. It is literally like going through a refiner's fire at times.

In Sunday School this past week, we studied Job and the teacher quoted from the Old Testimant Institute Manual. Being dully fascinated, I went right home and got out my manual. Keith H Meservy sure has an excellent way of expressing the lessons taught in this fascinating book!!!

Job knew that the course of life he was pursuing was pleasing to the Lord.

The Adversary had concluded that intolerable circumstances such as Job suffered would drive the last feelings of loyalty out of the heart of the most ardent follower of the Lord.

BUT - the better anyone knows the Lord the more worthy of trust He appears.
"Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him." Job 13:13

It is not arrogant or proud to voice our assurance in the source of our strength and integrity.

"In the fiery furnace, Job had shown not only the Adversary but also HIMSELF that the correct knowledge about God and the right relationship with Him were of more value than anything he had obtained out of life -- including length of days, offspring, friends, and loved ones, even wealth and health." Keith H. Meservy

"Thus:
IF anyone is to endure in faithfulness in life,
(THEN) he/she must know three things.

1- That God exists,

2- That He is perfect in His character and in His attributes,

3- That the course of life, which one pursues, is pleasing to the Lord."

By Keith H. Meservy (Old Testiment Institute Manual, p. 23)

So simple, yet so difficult. ♥

Thank you Job for this invaluable lesson!!!! Which I need to be reminded of regularly. ♥

May our trials find us as Job with our integrity and strength in the Lord still fully intact
no matter how long we must suffer!! ♥
