Last week Dad finally decided to bite the bullet and open up the floor under the upstairs toilet. YUCK!!! Black mold and whatever else comes from the underside of a not so well sealed toilet.
SHUDDER, SHUDDER!!!!
After ripping up the under-layment (which was rotting) to expose the sub-floor (which just needed the surface bleached 3 times, and scrubbed), a crack was exposed in the plastic part, which held the toilet to the floor and connected it to the drain pipe. Four trips to Lowe's and Home Depot later, and the toilet was returned to it's original positioned all the better for being disturbed. AAAAAAAAAH!!
(Sorry did not take any pictures before it was finished. You didn't want to see it anyway, did you??!!!)
Fortunately
we had kept the extra tiles from the original work 20yrs ago,
but there were not quite enough to replace the broken tiles from the repair. As you can see the new tiles are not quite the same. I suppose styles do change some after that long, LOL!! Anyway, Dad put them in a less conspicuous place and with the rug around the front of the toilet they hardly show!!!Love the fresh smell of an indoor toilet when all is working well!!!
nice, it looks great!
ReplyDeleteThanks! One more project checked off our to to list before retirement, LOL!!
ReplyDeleteNicely done! Glad you got it repaired!
ReplyDeleteThanks Elaine, Dad is glad it is over!! He was sore for a couple of days afterward, but not too bad - tight quarters to work in and not as flexible as he used to be.
