Ramblings

In spite of not feeling well, we had a wonderful Thanksgiving with Gramma Ford. After deliberating for weeks, I finally decided to have her come here instead of us going there. When we go there, she feels that she has to be the dutiful hostess and prepare most of the food, set the table with her finest, and do the majority of the clean up. When she comes here, I do all of that and she gets to rest, but then she has to travel at a risky time of year, snow or ice. At age 82, either option has it's positive and negative. Last year, I cooked most of the meal and drove it to her house.

It snowed some that morning, but was clear the rest of the day.

I cooked the turkey in the oven overnight, what a wonderful smell permeated the house!! Threw a pumpkin pie together, ground up the cranberries and oranges for relish, and pealed the potatoes (sweet, white and an onion for mashing) the day before. She brought some Harvard beets and creamed cauliflower, YUMMY!! It was a meal fit for a king!!

After the meal we played "Mexican Train" with the dominoes and even Ed played!! Dad was so patient helping him learn!!! Bless you Dad!!! Then they had to leave before it got too dark for them to drive home.

We had a delightful Spiritual experience working in the temple!
Dad did the innitories for 10 of his ancestors, 3 of them special uncles whom he grew up with!! While he was doing work for his family, I did some temple names, Spanish and German. One Spanish woman was VERY happy to have her work done, letting my and the officiators eyes overflow with happiness! Then we did an endowment, Dad for his favorite uncle Elmer and I for another temple name. Before the endowment began, I started another coughing jag, and had to leave to take some medicine. When I came back, my seat was taken, so I had to sit in the back. At first I was sad to sit so far from Dad, but in the end it was a blessing. I was the last to go through the veil and Brother Pettengill was officiating there. It worked out that I was the last one and he was to be the one to pull me through the veil.
That whole day, I felt that I was home, with so many workers knowing who I was and welcoming me there and caring that I was not feeling my best.
The whole day was a loving example of what Heaven will be like !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dad invited me to go with him to Newburgh, NY while he took a Docuware class for work. The night before we left, it had snowed, but the roads were drivable in the morning. Until we got out of Broome County that is. Then, we ran into the same snow storm, which had recently left our area. We were a bit nervous for a couple of reasons. First, the tires on the car are not the best, not bad enough to be replaced, but still we needed to drive a bit slower than if they were brand new. Then, we worried that we would not make it in time for his class to begin, because of driving slower. The Lord blessed us with safe traveling, which allowed us to arrive about half an hour before the time the internet said the class was to begin. Unfortunately, the class actually started at 8 o'clock not 9, but the instructor was kind about it and all was good.

The office personal always feel sorry for me when I come to this class with Dad, sitting alone all day in the break room. I explained that it was a restful for me and that I brought along LOTS of reading and studying to do, the Ensign and Scriptures, which I greatly LOVE delving into when I have time! At the end of the day on Tuesday, they joked that tomorrow they should have me put their Christmas Cards into envelopes for them. I said that I would be very happy to help them out!

Upon arriving the next day, I asked them if they were serious and that I seriously would LOVE to help! They said that they were not quite organized to do them yet, but in a few minutes they came to get me and set me up in the conference room with about 350 cards and envelopes, which were done in about 2 and a half hours. They were surprised that they were finished so quickly. A long time ago, when Brother Ianuzi was looking for employees for his camp brochures business, he had explained how to stuff envelopes efficiently. It sure came in handy!! Then they gave me an insert to fold and place inside of another 230 cards and stuff them in envelopes. Shortly before time to go home (2pm), all were done!

They were ever so kind as to come to me and ask me what I wanted for lunch! Dad had ordered something for me the day before as well as this day, which surprised them how attentive he was to me. He even helped me by folding inserts, while we waited for the food to arrive! After lunch they brought me a present, a very well made maglight with the company name on it!!! I joked with them that I would have to put my name on it, so he would know it was mine, LOL!! Soooo, they brought another one for me to give him as a surprise on Christmas Day!
Weren't they wonderful!!

The drive home was uneventful and Dad got home in time to have dinner and attend his evening class at BCC.

All is well that ends well!!!

After Thanksgiving, Dad began throwing up more and more. Finally I convinced him to go see the doctor. The doctor was a bit concerned but remained calm, which helped me to stay so as well. With his grandfather dieing of stomach cancer, his father having colon cancer before he died, his mother having lung cancer before she died, and him smoking for almost 30yrs before stopping about 25yrs ago, he is still at risk of getting cancer..... A contrast scan was ordered only to have the insurance company deny it!
Fear, frustration, anger, faith.
The Lord knows best, we have to believe that everything is under his watchful eye and will be for our best interest. As it has turned out, the Prilosec and ulcer diet have begun working, no throwing up for the past 5 days. The thought crossed my mind that maybe he needed to get to this point before taking the contrast medicine, which causes even the strongest stomach to lurch.
Today the insurance has accepted having him do the CT with contrast tomorrow!!!!

Nothing like making us wait till the last minute to know!!!!
Helps build faith in the One who matters most, Heavenly Father!!!

We are grateful to the Lord and all those who have been praying for Dad's health!!!
