We took the door, side light windows, and double window to the right out and replaced them with a new insulated door.
Building the frame together provided some great bonding time, since we are both so busy most of the time!!
The new door was installed a couple of weeks ago. Installing it was not so easy, since the house is not square anymore from age, or maybe it never was. Anyway, it took a couple of tries before it was finally installed and operating smoothly.
Working hard to beat father time and winter coming on, has been quite a challenge, but so far we are on target with getting it weather tight before Thanksgiving!!!
Saturday we took out the window units on the driveway side and replaced them with plywood on the outside and inside. It is interesting that each time we start another faze of this project, we make at least 3 trips to the hardware store. LOL!! We got the boards cut for the shelves and then realized that they are too wide. arrrrgh. Oh well, the pantry shelving could not be installed anyway, because we also forgot that the floor needs to be leveled first. Next Saturday.
We would like to get the porch completed before Christmas as much as possible. Friday, I stuccoed (1/4 inch of cement trolled on the plywood and stones placed in the cement) the front wall and yesterday I did the side. WHEW, was I tired and SORE!! But it was a good feeling to have accomplished so much!!
Now I need to put the holes in the inside walls (using a hammer and screw driver on the stucco, YIKES!!), in preparation for the blow-in insulation, which we will do the day after Thanksgiving.
This coming Friday evening, we will look for insulated windows for the front and west end. (3 in front and 2 on the end)
Saturday, we will level the floor adding more insulation between the new and old floors, and put in the shelving. WHEW! The pantry doors will have to wait for a while.
We have to decide what to put on the floor, tile, or wood like the rest of the house. Maybe tile in the entry way and wood for the "nook". Once it is insulated, the window behind the couch in the living room can be removed to the floor making an entry way to the 'nook'. After that, a coat closet can be built as a wall between the 'entry way' and the 'nook'. This has been in my mind for a LONG time and it is finally coming to be!!! It is all so exciting!!!!
I am concerned that if I take a break the momentum will be lost, LOL!!!

I can hardly wait to see it!
ReplyDeleteDad wants to get the west window installed as soon as possible! The front one will be covered with plastic to help keep out the cold. I'm hoping that all except the covering for the leveled floor and painting will be finished by the time you come!! I told Dad that after the porch gets insulated, he may come home and find the window behind the couch gone, LOL!!! He was not sure if I was kidding or not. Neither was/am I!!! :)
